Life After Death
5 Stars for Sweet Dreams
Dream is devastated when her best friend commits suicide. It wasn't just the death of a friend, but the death of their relationship. It seemed as if everything around Dream was dead or didn't bare any good fruit. Her best friend was gone, her mother was an abusive alcoholic and who knew where her father was. So many plans had been made by the teenaged best friends, and while Dream was dying inside- she was determined to live and accomplish what she set out to do.
Antonio- is from down South and he is a good boy who works hard and has to assist his mother in taking care of his siblings. He has a good heart and has some tough decisions to make. He wanted to do the right thing, but when time was short with the family and he was barely bringing in enough money to make a difference even though he worked two jobs; he gave into the one thing he didnt want to do. When he met, Dream while she was on campus tour in his home town; he wanted to know more about this girl who was from Connecticut. Would the chance ever present itself that he can be with her? Will his lifestyle hinder any future that they could share?
Sit back and relax as this page turner hot from the start novel takes you deep into the lives of the teens featured here- and see how what seems hopeless to many is not too hard to turn around for God. Nikkea's literary stance in the industry is strong and fulfilling.

Title: On The Flip Side Author: Nikkea Smithers
Woman to Woman Literary Sistas Rating 5 Amazon Rating 5
In On The Flip Side, Nikkea shows us the other side of single parenting and how trifling some women really are. It's sad, yet inspiring to know that there are some good brothers out there. They don't get the credit they deserve and are often-times over-shawdowed by women holding it down- Nikkea is right on time with this story.
Tavares, a single parent of twins has been giving a bad rap. His baby's mother left the babies at the hospital as soon as she was released. She called him and told him to pick up the babies, she was out. Tavares didn't have enough money to fully take care of his kids, thus he had to stay with his mother, work two jobs, and pay child support in two states. He didn't have time for a love life, nor extra money to be obligated to anyone else. Tavares did the best he could by his kids and loved them unconditionally. His babies mother was making his life pure hell. She was greedy, unbearable, selfish, and a liar. She was always dragging Tavares into court across state lines to get more money in child support, by making the judge think she was the sole provider for the children. The judges between the courts didn't want to deal with the others rulings in the issue of child support. Soon the tables would be turned and Tavares would catch a break in more ways than one, with trouble still on his heels. Little did Tavares know that the baby momma drama would soon be over- for good!
Danica was a victim of the indirect abuse from her father as a child. She and her sister watched their father beat their mother time and time again throughout her childhood. As time went on, the girls wanted to avenge their mother. Since no matter what their father did to her, she was still the loving wife and mother to them. The sisters got together to give a little payback to their daddy, they felt they needed to or he would eventually kill their mother. They made him regret that he ever beat her while they were around because he could never forget that payback is a mutha (shut yo mouth). The only problem was that became an addiction for Danica and she thrived on helping those who couldn't help themselves. Danica was a therapist, made lots of money, lived lavishly, but she didn't have real happiness in her life. Nothing was more important to her than payback. The timely meeting of Tavares was her chance of feeding two of her passions, they both would be temporary. As Danica's sister wants out of the business- she is ready to be done with it because she realized that karma always had a way of finding you. Danica had one more hit on her agenda......and nothing was going to stop her from carrying it out. Was Danica in over her head?
I recommend On the Flip Side to all women. It shows the other side of single parent drama that men often times go through. It's in your face reality. The story is well-written and will make you laugh, cry, get mad and want to get even too....

Love Will Find A Way
Gold Diggin' by Nikkea Smithers is a great read, and will have you cheering for love to conquer all. I read this book in one sitting and let me tell you I eagerly await her next book.
Goldie is living the life fresh out of college and has the job of her dreams as an account personality for an up-and-coming radio station, WHOT. She loves mingling with the people, celebrities and such and really puts her all into everything she touches. However, she has some major family issues that once they become revealed will turn her world upside down.
Keith is a victim of rape at an early age and has since shut down and has become very bitter and detached from life. Knowing that he holds his moms' life in the palm of his hands, he never reveals what happened to him, and gets mixed up with a known drug dealer who promises him safety and shelter. Ten years later Keith's new job, as assassin, leaves him unfulfilled and feeling like something is missing from his life.
Goldie and Keith's paths cross when she is the next victim on his hit list. Will Goldie remain at the station even though she has stumbled across illegal activity? Will she take her findings to the police, or will she listen to Keith's wishes for her to remain silent? I recommend this book to readers of all genres. And I look forward to Ms. Smither's next book.

It’s A Cold Cruel World
Like most kids, Keith was a happy child. He lived with his mother in a two bedroom apartment. He did not know that the world could be a cruel place. But he would soon find out at the tender age of seven, that life is not fair. One night his mother leaves him at home with her drug addict boyfriend that changes Keith's entire life. That night, he is raped and threatened with harm to his mother if he tells. At that point, his life begins to spiral out of control. He begins to withdraw from his mother and she not knowing what happened, notices the change, but is unable to do anything about it.
This continues for several years until he is twelve-years old. One night while his mother is out, the building they live in catches fire. Keith grabs the things he considers most important and escapes the building with his life, a few clothes, and a couple of important documents. While he is standing with the other tenants of the building, he is approached by a Red Cross worker. Scared that he will be placed in the foster care system, he runs away. Hoping to find his mother, he hides in an alley. While there, he does find her and tells her what happened. She is in a drug haze and simply walks away.
Keith is now forced out into the world alone. He is cold, hungry, and homeless. He then turns to a life of crime to support himself. Along the way to his adulthood, he meets people that are able to help him out. One of those people being Mari. She helps him get a roof over his head and get him off of the streets. Then another tragic event turns him back out into the cold streets from which he came. Will he be able to survive or will his life catch up to him in the end?
I loved this book. Keith's Story kept me on the edge of my seat. Just when I thought he had dealt with the worst, there was something on the next page waiting to deal him another blow. Keith's Story is told in the first person, so the reader is able to feel everything he is feeling from his perspective. And it is hard not to feel bad for this young man. There are a few punctuation and spelling errors, but they do not take away from the story one bit. It is told in two parts; the prequel and the sequel to Gold Diggin'. So you see him as a teenager and as a young man. I would recommend this book to everyone that enjoys reading books that have a street edge. I cannot wait to find out what happened in the middle!
