Nikkea "Auset" Lewis is an author, poet, publisher and motivational speaker amongst other things. She self published her first book, a poetry compilation entitled Reflections of a Woman, was published in December of 2003 and is currently sold out. The book was a compelling blend of freestyle poetry which talked about issues women reflect on uncensored. Her second book and first novel, entitled Gold Diggin', was published in October of 2005. In this dramatic novel she focused on the struggles everyday people go through ever day trying to find the gold within themselves. Then allowing themselves to live, learn and love. Her third published work, �Attitudes of a Woman�, due to release in November of 2006 she goes back to her poetry roots and pour out more than she ever has before!
Originally from Connecticut Nikkea graduated from Bullard Havens Regional Vocational Technical School in 1999 with not only a diploma but also certification in the field of Hairdressing, Barbering and Cosmetology. She worked her way up from a shampoo girl in 1996 to a stylist in 1999 at Kathy's Hair to Impress in Bridgeport Connecticut. While in high school she served on the student council, as vice president of the gospel choir, a member of Vocational Industrial Clubs of America and the president of the African American Cultural Society. She won first place in Bullard Haven's Hair show two years in a row as well as an honorable mention. She also won a national medal in the VICA hair show competition.
In 1999 she relocated to Richmond, Virginia to go to Virginia Union University. Since then she has had a decorated professional career in banking working for such large companies as Wachovia and Bank of America where she currently works while writing and publishing.
Nikkea feels that volunteer work is her duty as she continually volunteers her time being a motivational speaker at schools such as George Wythe High School. She has also created a free poetry course which she teaches at various schools to promote literacy and creativity in youth.
She began Auset Ausar Productions in 2003. AAP is more than a publishing company as Nikkea wishes to soon market movies, music and other forms of entertainment. Her goal for AAP is to inspire people through her work. She plans to tackle topics that need to be addresses without remorse. She is also working on a non profit organization which will tie into her volunteer efforts.
Currently engaged Nikkea will publish her future works under her married name of Smithers after June 2007.
